Committees of the Board

The CFCAS Board of Trustees, in addition to the establishment of a Grants Review Committee, has created the following committees:

1. Finance
Vacant (chair); Marlon Lewis; Maurice Levasseur

  • Oversee CFCAS investments and expenditures
  • Oversee CFCAS audits
  • Advise and assist with fundraising activities
  • Advise on the preparation of annual budgets and oversee their implementation
  • Advise on communications with the office of the Auditor-General
  • Ensure development and content of the CFCAS Corporate Plan and interact with the
  • Strategic Planning committee on its development

2. Communications
Tom Pedersen (Chair); Kimberly Strong

  • Oversee ongoing CFCAS web site development
  • Promote CFCAS through press releases and other means
  • Ensure development and content of CFCAS publications, including the Annual Report
  • Review and update the communications strategy as required
  • Monitor use of the CFCAS logo by grantees and partner organizations
  • Advise and assist in responses to media reports related to CFCAS or relevant to its work

3. Program Evaluation
Gordon McBean (Chair); Ed Dean; Lawrence Mysak

  • Review the summary of annual narrative reports of grantees
  • Oversee the implementation of recommendations arising from the mid-term (2002-03) program evaluation
  • Arrange for and oversee the conduct of program evaluations at intervals identified in the
  • Agreement, to determine if the program remains relevant, successful and cost effective
  • Arrange for and oversee the conduct of a final program evaluation of outputs and outcomes at the termination the Funding Agreement

4. Strategic Planning
Marlon Lewis (Chair); Gordon McBean; Ed Dean; John Mills

  • Establish a strategy to ensure visibility of the Foundation
  • Assist in establishment and implementation of a CFCAS strategic plan, to address discipline needs and fill gaps
  • Promote a CFCAS role in federal climate discussions
  • Pursue opportunities for an enhanced CFCAS role in the research/policy community
  • Oversee development of the Foundation and its differentiation from other funding or policy bodies
  • Advise on a CFCAS ‘message’ and its targetting to decision makers and others
  • Alert Secretariat staff to new initiatives of relevance to Foundation interests
  • Interact with the Communications Committee on the development of CFCAS Corporate Plans
