MEDIA ADVISORY ----- FOR MEDIA ONLY Prairie drought study brings Canadian experts to Saskatoon, January 11-12, 2006 OTTAWA, January 9, 2006 — Scientists from across Canada will attend the first workshop of a new Drought Research Initiative (DRI), January 11-12, 2006, in Saskatoon. The Honourable Peter Prebble, Minister of Corrections and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Water Corporation, will give the opening remarks on January 11, at 9:00 a.m, at the Parktown Hotel (Oak Room). DRI is a new research network created to improve our knowledge of drought in the Prairies and our ability to predict future droughts. It is the largest ever Canadian university study on drought. The network brings together researchers from universities and government, including McGill University and the University of Saskatchewan. This collaborative effort is supported by the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (CFCAS), which is providing $3 million to the study.
